Seminar on the Transboundary Management of Large Carnivores Populations, Osilnica, Slovenia; 15-17 April 2005

The meeting will be held from 15 to 17 April 2005 following the LCIE Core Group meeting (13 and 14 April 2005). It is organized by the Council of Europe in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning of Slovenia and the Large Carnivore Initiative for Europe (LCIE) in association with the Austrian LIFE project on bears.The seminar on the Transboundary Management of Large Carnivores Populations aims to bring together governmental and non-governmental organisations, management and conservation experts, scientists and conservationists. It will examine transboundary management of large carnivore populations in the context of an expansion of populations of wolf, lynx and bear and will make proposals concerning international co-operation in this field as well as on the implementation of Action Plans adopted by the Bern Convention Standing Committee. The 2-day seminar will present some case studies concerning management practices in different European countries and will focus on the importance of a coordinated action in a pan-European level especially for those border countries.

REC 15 years Anniversary: Ministerial Meeting of the General Assembly of the REC, 26-29 June, 2005; Szentendre, Hungary

The Regional Environmental Center (REC) has studied the regions environment and guided its stakeholders for 15 years. REC experience and knowledge, gained in concert with its donors and beneficiaries alike, represent both an asset for future work and a responsibility of everyone involved.

 

The international conference at Szentendre on June 28, 2005 marked the REC’s 15th anniversary. The ministerial-level meeting covered the range of tools applicable to sustainable development of the region and the REC’s environmental strategy for the period 2006-2010.  The closing event of the anniversary celebrations was a party held at the Hungarian Parliament in conjunction with International Danube Day.

 

10-th European Bat Research Symposium, 21-26 August 2005, Galway, Ireland

The symposium scientific programme will include papers on all aspects of bat biology and ecology, including phylogeny and systematics, taxonomy, population biology, species biology and behaviour, foraging behaviour, echolocation etc.

A special session will be reserved for urgent matters relating to bat conservation such as mass mortality.

The Symposium will be preceded by the VIth European Bat Detector Workshop, which will be held in Ireland- Killarney, Co. Kerry 17th - 20th August. The workshop is planned to include some or all of the following techniques and subjects: monitoring, locating roosts, catching, marking, in the hand, and detectors.

Virtual Conference: ForwardFORESTs (2005-2006)

ForwardFORESTs is an initiative, which started on 15 April 2005 and is finishing on 30 June 2006. The objective of the conference is the analysis of ecological, technological, environmental and societal effects on the future development of forests, focusing on Central European forests. The result of the conference consists in the identification and evaluation of trends as information basis for a wise and sustainable management and development of forest systems. We want to address especially young scientists - the "second growth", female scientists and partners from SME and invite them to present their ideas on topics of ForwardFORESTs.
