Summary

Bat Research and Protection Group (BRPG) is founded in 1989 as a working group in the “Green Balkans” Federation. In 1997 BRPG is registrated as an independent NGO situated in the National Museum of Natural History - BAS. The main goals of BRPG are research and protection of the bats and their habitats in our country and the priority activities of the Group are relied to:organization, carrying out and participation in research projects; development and application of nature protection strategies and initiatives for preservation of bats and their habitats; development and maintenance of an information bank concerning all aspects of  biology and ecology of the bats; expert standpoints on bat protection in the development of new protected areas and management plans; raising public awareness on the bat protection; development and carrying out of educational programs.
BRPG works in strong collaboration with a number of state and non governmental organizations in our country and abroad in the following aspects:localization and research of the great bat colonies expecially in underground roosts; monitoring of the species and habitats;mapping of the bat roosts in Bulgaria; development and carrying out of educational programs and campains.
This is the only NGO in our country which activity is straightly specialized in this aspect. The most of its members work in NMNH as well as in other departments of BAS and they have been proved themselves as experts. BRPG is the main partner of Ministry of Environment and Waters (MoEW) as coordinator for carrying out the educational activities of EUROBATS and mostly the European Bat Nights in Bulgaria.
