CHM initiatives :: BIODIVERSITY.BG

BIODIVERSITY.BG is a domain name, through which the information space related to biodiversity in Bulgaria has been structured. This structuring has been done in order to provide easy to remember and use Internet addresses, each of them corresponding to certain area of biological diversity in the country. Thus through BIODIVERSITY.BG and its sub-domains such as for example specialists.biodiversity.bg, access has been made possible to information about specialists (in the example given), as well as about institutions, organizations, funding, education, protected areas and GIS etc, all related to biodiversity in Bulgaria. The same information sources are available through other web sites over the Internet, but often the addresses of these web sites are difficult to remember and find.

The aim of the above-described initiative is to make the access to Internet based information and its exchange easier.

Legislation

Information about the legislation in the field of biological diversity and natural resources is presented in four main topics: Conventions on biodiversity, European Union legislation, national legislation, and others.

Libraries

The application consists of a database, which integrates the virtual libraries of institutions and organizations into one virtual library with possibilities for searching all the data. Each institution/organization library stores publications, books, and other information sources. It is independent and can be filled in from any computer with access to Internet.

Business

The web site functions as a portal web site of BIODIVERSITY AND BUSINESS Information Node. This information node is part of the Bulgarian CHM. The node was established to provide information about the biodiversity resources and their sustainable use.

Monitoring

This website presents the results of the project “Framework for development of a national biodiversity and protected area monitoring system in Bulgaria".

Dictionary

The dictionary of terms and abbreviations in the field of biodiversity provides search options by a key word and from a list. The information is both in English and Bulgarian and is part of the content of Bulgarian Biodiversity Portal.
